Juste Debout Rules

Fundamental Rules Applicable to All Pre-Selections & Finals

To ensure a smooth, fair, and respectful experience for all dancers, the audience, staff, and partner venues, please carefully read the following charter.

This charter is designed to preserve the spirit of Juste Debout: culture, respect, excellence, safety, and celebration.

Important: In the event of non-compliance with these rules, the management reserves the right to take any necessary measures to ensure the proper conduct of the event, including exclusion or disqualification.

Please read this document carefully and accept these rules before registering.

1) Outfit & visibility (brands, accessories)

1.1. Authorized outfits

To preserve the neutrality of the event and avoid any unregulated communication, outfits must have no visible commercial brand.

Allowed:

  • Juste Debout clothing

  • clothing referring to street dance cultural events (events only)

  • plain (“blank”) clothing: no logo, no slogan, no markings

1.2. Prohibited markings

Any identifiable brand element (logo, name, slogan, visual signature) on any garment is not allowed, including in particular on:

  • caps / hats

  • t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters

  • pants

  • socks, coats/jackets

  • and any other textile

1.3. Accessories

For reasons of fairness, safety, and image readability, please come without accessories on the dancefloor (non-exhaustive list):

  • cans, bottles/flasks

  • flags

  • promotional items

1.4. Entourage / circle around the dancefloor

People present in the circle around the dancefloor (supporters, entourage) are asked to respect the same framework.
Management may ask certain people to move or step out of the camera’s field of view if it interferes with the flow, the image, or safety.

1.5. Licensed brands

Only officially partnered brands (license/agreement) may be visible on or near the dancefloor.

Dancers may be sponsored by a brand and may therefore wear the sponsor’s logo/branding. However, any brand visibility is strictly subject to prior approval from Juste Debout. For any request, please contact us in advance by email at vanessa@juste-debout.com.

1.6. Decency / respect for public space

Please wear an outfit appropriate for a public event:

  • no gratuitous nudity

  • no visual vulgarity

  • no visible genitals, no visible nipples

1.7. Outfit checks

A check may be carried out by a staff member before entering the stage.
In case of non-compliance, a solution may be proposed (e.g., removing/covering an item).
If the outfit cannot be brought into compliance, access to the stage may be refused.

2) Attitude & behavior (safety, respect, JD spirit)

Juste Debout is a competition, but also a celebration of culture. We expect:

  • respect toward your opponent, the audience, and staff

  • kindness, even in intensity and the “will to win”

Please refrain from:

  • any violent physical contact or contact perceived as intrusive/disturbing

  • any insult (verbal or gestural)

2.1. Displays of affection on stage

Out of respect for the public setting of the event, please avoid hugging and displays of affection on stage.

3) Choreography / synchronization

To preserve spontaneity and the essence of the battle:

  • only one combo / routine / synchro (whatever the term) is allowed per match, in a maximum of 1 or 2 rounds

  • by “synchronization,” we mean a moment clearly prepared in advance (impossible to pull off without rehearsal)

Styles, grooves, gimmicks, and intentions are welcome, as long as they do not rely on multiplying synchronized sequences.

4) Timing, format & organization

4.1. Classic format

  • 1 minute per dancer

  • the round is individual: the dancer starts and ends their time in an identifiable way (a choreo/combo can fit within the framework defined in point 3)

4.2. Prelims

  • 1 minute total for both dancers

  • halftime will not be announced: please manage your time

4.3. Punctuality

To keep the event on schedule:

  • please be ready and close to the cypher when you are called

  • in case of lateness that puts the organization at risk, management may take a decision up to and including disqualification

5) Microphone / speaking

No speaking on the microphone will be granted or tolerated during matches.

You agree with that?
